The Maison et Objet design fair is a very important event of trends and novelties in the world of interior design. Basically, you can see everything that is going to be trendy in the world of interiors. I have already told you about it many times, both here and on Instagram, so below I show you the latest of the 2019 fair and three ways to apply these trends to your home.
Vegetable grid
This a trend that become very powerful, possibly you have noticed several stores following the trend of “cannage” (aka ‘the grid of my grandma’, as a friend of mine calls it). This grid has begun to be used in the Thonet chairs model 14 (currently model 214) and was designed in 1854. Until then the rattan grid was considered a noble and luxury material (it was imported from Asia) but Thonet democratized it, reaching the humblest people (long live industrial design!). By the way, Thonet’s chairs (now the company is called TON) are my favorites in the world, and not just because the company is Czech (like me :)). With the chair No. 14, the history of modern furniture really began and it is a most successful industrial product in the world (IKEA learned from them, since the chair was disassembled). It was an innovative idea of furniture transportation because 36 chairs disassembled could fit in a box of one cubic meter.
{Thonet Chair nº 14}
Another super famous chair with vegetable grid is the Cesca chair, designed in 1928 by Marcel Breuer of the Bauhaus school. This chair is no longer made of wood, its construction is made of steel tubes. I recently used it in the design of this house in the Czech Republic.
{Cesca chair, by the way it is an abbreviation of the name Francesca.}
{Ton chair today and its latest models presented in M&O.}

The vegetable grid can be seen not only in seats but in virtually all furniture, such as screens, sideboards, even in lamps.
Natural materials
Furniture, lamps and decorative accessories of natural materials such as wicker, rattan or bamboo never go out of style and this year they are again a super trend. Natural materials predominate in all aspects of decoration such as fabrics, carpets (cotton and wicker) and bedding (especially washed linen plaids for both adults and children beds).
{Wicker lamps of the French brand Honoré, I love everything they do. They are responsible of the already famous Croisette armchair.}
{Lorena Canals cotton carpets, I’m a true fan!}
{A washed linen plaid for a children’s bed makes you want to lie down.}
Pink and yellow mustard
I can’t like this combination anymore. The mixture of mustard yellow and rosewood (of which I have spoken here and here) is ideal for this fall. They are the two colors of the moment and together they create modern and fresh interiors.
{Lamps in fabric and geometric shapes are a great trend… also in mustard!}
{Appliques in pink and mustard from the Spanish house Aromas del Campo.}
{Pink fabrics, pink upholstery on the walls and of course a chair with a vegetable grill that cannot be missed.}
